Dow AgroSciences (DAS) is seeking a Packaging Engineer for the Packaging Development Group within the Crop Protection R&D function. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of new and revised packaging designs and materials. He/she will be responsible for the development of all packaging components including documentation and implementation of the finished materials into production facilities.

Primary responsibilities will include:
Design of packaging components that will ensure user safety, product protection, environmental acceptability, and optimized cost; and that meet the capability of existing plant equipment.
Ensuring that all packaging components meet applicable regulatory requirements and proper testing and that documentation is maintained.
Working with marketing and other departments to develop strategies and goals, and to define requirements for the packaging of Dow AgroSciences' products which meet or exceed customer and company needs.
Working in concert with graphics and labeling personnel to assure packaging components are compatible with printing and labeling needs.
Developing and maintaining detailed packaging component specifications and packaging instructions.
Providing direction to packaging suppliers on all new and revised packaging component specifications to ensure understanding of Dow AgroSciences' requirements and expectations.
Working with Purchasing to qualify and select packaging suppliers.
Preparing and issuing packaging related documents, as appropriate, to ensure that involved parties have adequate information concerning the development, implementation, change, etc., of packaging components.
Working with Production/Packaging line personnel to ensure correct and efficient packaging of products.
Providing assistance in resolving packaging problems arising in manufacturing or anywhere else in the supply chain.
Initiating and coordinating projects to standardize packaging components or decrease the cost of packaging while maintaining or enhancing quality and performance.
Maintaining knowledge of current and new packaging technology which may lead to greater cost effectiveness or marketplace advantages.
The position is located at the Dow AgroSciences corporate headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. Limited travel will be required as dictated by project needs, specifically those relating to startups, packaging material and supplier qualifications, and resolution of packaging quality complaints.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
A bachelors or higher degree in engineering or science with a degree in packaging science preferred.
At least three years of packaging engineering experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
The following is also highly desired:
Knowledge and experience with a broad range of rigid and flexible packaging materials and technologies.
Experience in the agricultural industry with regulations affecting agricultural products, project management, specification writing, and printed packaging and labeling.

• Design all aspects of product, including packaging. Research & test all products (before and after production) to assure products meet company standards.

Specific Skills

Qualifications:
• 3+ years graphic design experience and product experience – preferably craft & gift industry.
• Proficiency with InDesign , Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience dealing with licenses preferred.
• Excellent computer graphic skills.
• Ability to meet project deadlines and successfully manage multiple priorities
• Well organized; detail-oriented; good craftsmanship; precise.
• Strong written and oral communications skills, including ability to communicate effectively in English
• Must be able to execute and communicate creative vision.
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic, or Communication Design or equivalents
